International Theatre Festival Divadelná Nitra born out of freedom. For three and a half decades we have been building an island of independent art and critical thinking. Through the Festival and other activities throughout the year, the Association Divadelná Nitra has been bringing inspiring theatre from across Europe and further afield to Slovakia for 35 years, supporting Slovak artists and setting space for new works, bold themes and free dialogue.

Throughout its existence, the Festival Divadelná Nitra has established itself as one of the key cultural events in Slovakia and a respected event within European landscape. It is a place for encounter and exchange of experiences, a space for art that responds to the surrounding world.
Today we know that for this space to continue to flourish in the coming years, it cannot rely solely on the decisions of a single office or commission. The state of public support for culture in Slovakia proved what we have suspected: we must build our independence ourselves – together and over long time.
Divadelná Nitra is more than a festival. Our Festival team works all year round. We build international relations and communicate with theatres across Europe. We create a programme that bears a telling value. We also convene discussions, conferences, workshops and projects for children, youth and schools. We lecture at universities, work with communities and bring art to where people are: to schools, squares, cultural centres. All this happens throughout a year, not merely during a single festival week. Every regular donor means an assurance for us that we can continue in our endeavour.
Every donation is significant — regardless of the amount. Regular support gives us the rarest good: freedom to create without compromise and independence from the mood of the time. Your support is not a gift for survival. It's a statement of attitude. It is your part in the culture that will surpass our individual human timeline. Your support will help us preserve the space for free, bold and open art for generations to come.
